Fame the series was an iconic show that aired from 1982 to 1987. It remains a cultural touchstone to this day. Set at the New York City High School for the Performing Arts.  Like the preceding film, Fame the series was shot mostly in California. The school which was made world renowned, through this film and series, actually closed in 1984. But New York’s most aspiring arts students were moved to a new facility. The new school includes visual arts studies now.  The show Fame follows the lives of talented young students striving to achieve their dreams in the competitive world of show business.

 Fame the series celebrates passion, perseverance, and the pursuit of excellence in the arts.  It captured the optimism of youth prevalent in the 80s.  As well as the many trials and tribulations of those formative years approaching adulthood. The high-school politics and adolescent turmoil was set on a backdrop of  competitiveness and personal drive. But this was balanced with a loving environment of caring friends and teachers.  Accordingly its message is that no matter what our individual talents and/or failings, we all have something great to offer.  Also, that when faced with seeming impossibilities, it teaches that with the care and support of our friends, one will prevail. And finally what it means to be a true friend.

Fame was directed by Alan Parker, offers a vibrant and immersive exploration of the lives of students at New York City’s High School of Performing Arts. The film offers a glimpse of the trials and tribulations of a group of students negotiating not only adolescence but the added challenges of doing what it takes to make it in the entertainment industry. Overall, “Fame” is a timeless classic that continues to captivate audiences with its dynamic performances, infectious energy, and poignant storytelling.

At its core, “Fame” is a celebration of talent, ambition, and the pursuit of artistic excellence.  A passion that inspired the spin off TV series Fame which aired from 82 through to 87. Some of these originally film cast characters were kept in the TV series.  Most notably teachers Miss Lydia Grant (dance), and the beloved Benjamin Shorofsky (music) played by Debbie Allen, and Albert Hague, along with dancer Gene Anthony Ray playing the unforgettable Leroy Johnson and musician/ composer Lee Curreri playing the lovable Bruno Martelli.
