Porky Pig was first introduced to the public in a short called “I haven’t got a hat” witch was shown in theaters in 1935. The studio head, Leon Schlesinger, suggested that director Friz Freleng do a cartoon version of the Our Gang films (Little Rascals). At first the character had only a minor role but the fat little stuttering pig became popular.
